I loved the plot, it kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next!Our Hero, King Cadeyrn, is brave, kind, and most handsome. I also loved Melody Hargreaves, our lovely, sweet and kind-hearted Heroine. She is simply perfect for our Hero. One of the loveliest characteristics that she has, is her caring heart. A simple vicar’s daughter, the king of the Fae, evil dragons and other demons fight. Early 1800s England knows nothing of the 5,000 year-old war with good battling against dark dragons that intend to rule over all realms on Earth. Not an epic tale but fun to read as rich characters realize love really has strength greater than hate.
The Fae King, Cadeyn finally found his one true love and Queen in a human, Melody after 5,000 years of searching. There were strong emotions between the two, even if Cadeyn didn't recognize it at first. This was a very intriguing love story with an excellent plot and many twists. I recommend this series from Meara Platt.
The second in this series was a story filled with magic, love and the ever present evil. The Fae King Caderyn must save his people from the Dragon Lords, but he can't do this alone. Melody is a simple vicar's daughter at least that was her belief until she actually sees Caderyn. I loved how each of these characters had to come to grips with their vulnerabilities to realize their strengths. The plot was complex woven with a strong emotional relationship. Beautiful setting that made you wish you could be transported to the fairy world. It was action packed that left you holding your breath. It was a overall entertaining read that I couldn't part down. I can't wait for the 3rd installment.
I had to read this book in two periods as this week has seen the release of 4 awaited books for me.
So I do loved the plot, and the paranormal universe created by Meara Platt.
She redeemed Cadeyrn’s behavior from the first book, I came to like him and comprehend him, he was kind of obtuse about his feeling for Melody, but even without aloud acknowledging his feelings, his actions were perfectly comprehensible. He came from a man without sentiments to a man in love, he had to learn to swim among all these new sensations, to understand what he now feels mean for him.
While I liked Melody at the beginning, the more the story loved forward, the more I disliked her, she went from a nice willing young woman to a dumb coward ninny, unable to think for herself and always doubting herself and the only one man who tries his best to save even in spite of his own security and her own attempt to condemn him.
I still love this series but I’m not fond of weak whinny feminine protagonists, Ygraine and Edain were so much more stronger characters, fighting for they believed in.
You know technically I am a very picky person when it comes to paranormal romance since I read so many of them and it is very hard to please me when it comes to this genre. Some writers need to stay in the genre they write in because they write so well in it. So when they try their hand at paranormal it’s not as smooth as a transition but this book by Ms. Meara Platt not only pleased me as a paranormal romance lover but just made me love to read it. I am familiar with Ms. Platt’s regency historical romance and was apprehensive to even think that she could write the paranormal world sufficiently but Ms. Platt covers this with such easy grace. Sure I have read the first book in the dark garden series and was kind of on the border about it but this book in my opinion truly shines and made me smile. Plus this book despite being in the series could standalone without getting too lost. Ms. Platt gives enough background which also helps too. The writing in both the real world, Fae world and the darker dragon lord world was not only easily imagined but made me want to visit well at least the real world and Fae one. The characters simmer with life and seemed almost real too.
Melody Hargreaves sees an unresponsive stranger in her bluebell garden and she wants him out. The stranger is ruining her garden and she decides to get him out by herself. She pushes him and he almost falls into the hot springs and she doesn’t want him to end up in the water. While Melody is checking to make sure the guy isn’t injured he wakes up. The stranger is none other than King Caderyn King of the Woodlands Fairies. Caderyn is looking for the Julia the girl written in the prophecy to save his realm and instead finds Melody. Caderyn wonders since being a Fae King is usually invisible to humans but Melody can see him. Caderyn is intrigued by Melody and she by him. As Melody spends more time with Caderyn she slowly falls in love with him. Is she the one the prophecy spoke of or is she just another ordinary girl?
When I first read about King Caderyn in the first book I didn’t like him. Caderyn was arrogant, set in his ways, stubborn and unyielding. It seemed like he had no regard and was just going to push a girl with his magic to make him love him. He wasn’t winning any points with me and I didn’t see him as a very good hero or one that I would even like. In this book I understood him more and even fell for him too. Caderyn totally did a complete turn around and pretty much redeemed himself in this book. He was able to admit his mistakes plus loved his people but was scared to admit his feelings of love. So despite being a king and Fae he was able to admit he was wrong but was willing to save Melody no matter what the cost. Melody was an equally good heroine for him she was sassy, stubborn, and assertive she really loved not only her family but Caderyn as well. She did annoy me a little though even after all the times as being intimate with Caderyn well excluding the first time that he didn’t love her? Especially since touch and feelings weren’t well known to the Fae at times I did want to shake her. I still loved the story enough to finish it and have even read it twice. I definitely can’t wait to see what Ms. Platt has in store for the next in the series because I will be eagerly awaiting that book now.
